Most WordPress update issues are not caused by the update itself. They come from unclear ownership, missing checks, or too many changes landing at once.

Before the window

  • Confirm a recent backup exists
  • Review plugins with low confidence or poor release notes
  • Avoid mixing content edits with maintenance updates

During the window

  • Update in small batches
  • Check forms, navigation, search, and homepage sections after each batch
  • Keep a short rollback note instead of relying on memory

After the window

Write down anything fragile you noticed. The next update cycle should start with those notes, not from scratch.
